Electronic identity cards are to be introduced in Korea in 2008, the Korean Ministry of Home Affairs has announced. The cards will contain holders' personal details, health insurance data, fingerprints, online ID and online banking information allowing residents to log onto e-government web sites from any bank. The cards will also be used to cast votes in electronic voting trials in the same year.
